The Wholesale & Retail SETA Bursary Scheme
This scheme was established in 2011 to address some of the skills shortages identified in the W&R SETA Sector Skills Plan.It’s administered by the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and Career Wise.
The Scheme is aimed at providing financial assistance to needy students to study wholesale and retail qualifications.
Who can Apply?
The bursary scheme is open to learners who want to study any of the retail related qualifications at a recognised university, universities of technology and TVET College (formerly known as FET College) in South Africa.
The W&RSETA says it’s ‘sensitive to the fact that TVET colleges are strategically positioned to address skills shortages in the country and realises the importance of tapping into this skills pool in these institutions.’
The bursary scheme will assist the Sector by providing a pool of potential employees with scarce and critical skills, thus narrowing the gap between supply and demand. It will further promote and position wholesale and retail as a career of choice. W&RSETA
MBA & PhD Bursaries
The SETA has identified, as a key objective linked to the National Research and Development Strategy of 2002, a need to promote and support research through funding and human capacity development by creating a robust National System of Innovation (NSI) in South Africa. W&RSETA has financial support available for MBA/Masters and PhD/Doctoral students. The programme supports South African citizens only studying on a full-time or part-time basis who wish to pursue MBA/Masters and PhD/Doctoral studies with a focus on wholesale and retail. The objectives of this financial support are to:
- Contribute towards an increase in the number and quality of South African postgraduate students within Wholesale and Retail Sector;
- Enhance research within the Sector;
- Build a pipeline of researchers in the South African Retail landscape; and
- Contribute towards professionalising the Sector to make it a career of choice
The full bursaries cover all the costs of registration, tuition, books, accommodation, maintenance/meals allowance, editing and printing costs as well as travel costs to attend local conferences and seminars for MBA students and travel costs to attend local and international conferences for PhD students.
