SETAs Drive Sector Skills Development
In South Africa, the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) are responsible for managing the skills development and training initiatives in specific industries or sectors. Their primary function is to encourage and support workplace-based training to improve the skills of the workforce and enhance the competitiveness of businesses in the relevant sector.
Each SETA is responsible for a specific sector, such as agriculture, finance, tourism, or manufacturing, and they work with employers, trade unions, and other relevant stakeholders in that sector to identify skills needs and develop training programs to meet those needs. They also administer the allocation of the Skills Development Levies (SDL) that are paid by employers and use these funds to support training initiatives in their sector.
SETAs play a crucial role in the development of skills and human capital in South Africa, and their work helps to ensure that the country has a skilled and productive workforce that can support economic growth and development.
